Glass Art Society, Board Member and appointed to the executive committee

Last year I accepted a nomination to become a board member for the international Glass Art Society. At first I did it with hesitation but after a year with the current board members and the Norfolk conference I found it to be so rewarding. I am honored to have a voice in one of our major organizations in glass, be able to help GAS evolve, to get more connected to the international community and to make new friends has been more then worth all the time put in. Recently I accepted an appointment as Secretary on the executive committee. Very excited to see how this year plays out with the Murano Conference so close. Hope to see everyone there!

Jessica Jane Julius has been dedicated for 20+ years to the arts as an artist, educator, collaborator, and performer. Currently she is an Assistant Professor in Glass at Tyler School of Art, Temple University. Her objects, installations, and drawings reflect on the current "culture of fear" in our society. Currently she is an Assistant Professor in Glass at Tyler School of Art, Temple University. She is the co-founder and an active member of the artists’ collective and performance group The Burnt Asphalt Family. They have performed at prestigious venues across the country including The Studio at Corning Museum of Glass, The Chrysler Museum, and Urban Glass. Her mixed media works have been exhibited nationally the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Museum of American Glass in Millville, New Jersey, and Pilchuck Gallery in Seattle, Washington. Her work has been selected numerous time for publication in New Glass Review and she has been awarded residencies at The Creative Glass Center of America in Millville, New Jersey, and The Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington. She is a member of the board of the Glass Arts Society and was recently appointed to the Executive Committee. In the past, she served as Interim Program Head of Glass at Tyler School of Art and University of the Arts, and has also taught at RIT, Pilchuck Glass School, Urban Glass, and The Studio at Corning Museum of Glass. She earned her BFA in Glass at Tyler School of Art and MFA in Glass at Rochester Institute of Technology. Julius lives in Philadelphia with her husband and son.
