This is a new series of cocktail tables and bar works reimagines the iconic “Thank You” bag as both language and material form, tracing its shift from a gesture of gratitude and care to a hollowed signifier of consumerism. Through appropriation and recontextualization in glass, the work lingers on this slippage—how phrases meant to express connection become emptied, mass-produced, and endlessly circulated—inviting viewers to reconsider the weight of words within systems of exchange and desire. Functioning as social sculptures, the tables activate spaces of gathering, conversation, and exchange, asking how objects embedded in everyday rituals might foster moments of reflection, intimacy, and collective meaning rather than passive consumption. Made for the project, A Madeleine Moment, 2025. Special thanks to Olivia Smith for helping make this possible.
Constructed through a process of silk screening and hand-painted layered glass, each tabletop builds imagery through accumulation, allowing certain elements to remain recognizable while others dissolve, blur, or fragment the text. Ink and painted surfaces are sealed between layers of glass, preserving the imagery while protecting it from wear, allowing the works to function as durable, cleanable tabletops. This process creates a tension between legibility and abstraction, fragility and utility, where embedded language and imagery become part of an object designed for everyday interaction and gathering.
